As a Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire member, we hold personal data about yourself which you shared with us when you first joined. Personal data is information such as your name, date of birth, address and/or email address. We use this information to contact you about Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire activities, elections of the Independent Strategic Advisory Body and to send you our newsletters via email.
With the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 25th May 2018, as a current member, you need to be made aware in more detail about the type of information Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire holds about you, how we use that information, and your rights to have your information deleted.

The GDPR is a European regulation that introduces new data protection requirements throughout the EU. It will come into law from 25th May 2018 and will replace the current Data Protection Act 1998.

Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire are giving you the key facts about GDPR and ask that you give us your consent to hold your data, in order to remain a member.
If you would like to contact us and find out what data we do hold about you and update, correct or delete any part of it please contact us in writing or by email.
If you decide not to get in touch or do not consent to us storing your personal data, we will delete any information we hold about you and we will stop sending you updates and newsletters. This means that your membership of Healthwatch East Riding will cease.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): Key facts
What is personal and sensitive data?
Personal data is information which can be used to identify you, and other details about you. This may include your name, date of birth, address, email address, telephone number etc. For the purposes of your membership, we store your name, address and/or email address
We will also ask you for sensitive personal data such as your gender, age, ethnicity or disability so we can make sure that we are reaching people who represent the whole East Riding community. You don't have to supply us with this information to be a member.
Sensitive personal data is defined in the Data Protection Act as information related to any of the following: racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership, health, sexuality or sex life, offences and/or convictions.
Why do you collect information about me?
The personal information you provide on this membership form is used by us to contact you about Healthwatch East Riding activities and related information and to send you newsletters. Any sensitive personal data you consent to give us helps us ensure that we are engaging with all sections of the community.
Where do you store my data?
We have a secure electronic database in which we store information about you. The database is password protected and can only be accessed by Healthwatch East Riding staff. After recording your information in our database, we only keep the paper copy of the registration form for six months and then securely destroy it. Until they are securely destroyed, paper copies are saved in a locked filing cabinet only accessible to the relevant staff.
Who do you share my personal and sensitive data with?
Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire does not share any personal data about Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire members.
Can I access the data you hold about me and/or ask it to be erased?
You have a right to ask for a copy of all the information we hold about you and to correct any inaccuracies. Under the GDPR, Healthwatch East Riding is required to respond to your request within one month of receipt. You have the right to request that we delete or remove personal information ('right to be forgotten') where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it.
We will send you an annual reminder to let us know if the information we hold about you has changed to help us ensure its accuracy.
